Currently, Baumettes 1 has 6 classes: 3 classes with 27 students and 3 classes with 26 students.
The academic administration has planned to close a kindergarten class for the 2019-2020 school year.
The school hosts about 24.6% non-French-speaking families (including refugee families). The children who join the school often do not speak French and require even more attention from the teachers.
Additionally, enrollment of children from refugee families often occurs during the school year, well after the class size predictions have been made.
Given these facts, the opposition municipal councilor has questioned the academic administration to reconsider its decision.
