This morning, during the Municipal Council meeting, the two ecologist councilors Juliette Chesnel- Le Roux and Fabrice Découpigny will be able to illustrate their plan during the debates around anti-Covid measures.
Apparently, they are already launching into the post-world. It’s a small revolution they’re proposing.
Hear ye, hear ye, the shallot race is on. Who will emerge victorious?
1- Protecting the people of Nice
⚫ Distribution of masks in schools;
⚫ Establishment of a psychological and psychiatric aid unit for victims and their relatives, staff/caregivers, solidarity actors… overworked during the crisis;
⚫ Proposal for individual accommodation for the sick or recovering: People who test positive for Covid-19 will be able, if they wish, to have a room for two weeks in hotels in Nice;
⚫ Widespread testing for reception activities;
⚫ Activation of a local listening unit to address social distress as well as the isolation of individuals and to prevent/relay cases of violence against women, children, vulnerable people;
⚫ Creation of a housing and care system for violent partners to keep victims in the family home. In connection with the CCAS, providing housing for women and child victims forced to leave their homes urgently and supporting specialized associations that ensure the follow-up and support of these victims.
2- Restarting daily life
⚫ Opening markets with sanitary distancing measures;
⚫ Reopening parks;
⚫ Reopening beaches;
⚫ Restoring the usual scheduling of the transport network (which will allow compliance with sanitary distances);
⚫ Facilitating the lives of workers and caregivers: solidarity care systems, organizing bike loans for mobilized professions, organizing rest and supporting the right of withdrawal for employees;
⚫ Accommodating the children of priority staff, caregivers, firefighters, police officers as well as employees working in nursing homes, funeral services, and food businesses in all Nice schools and nurseries, free of charge. The situation of single-parent families and children with disabilities must also be considered;
⚫ Immediate tactical urban planning measures to create new cycle paths and green lanes, temporary or permanent, on car roads to encourage social distancing for cyclists and pedestrians.
⚫ Reading is a moment of escape: Allow access to libraries and bookstores. Reinstate borrowed books. And allow the people of Nice to borrow books from libraries via an email or internet order service. Open neighborhood bookstores while respecting social distancing rules.
3- Helping our city recover
⚫ Overhaul the 2020 budget with a revised budget to account for new priorities and reallocations;
⚫ Cancellation and freezing of major projects (airport extension, MIN relocation, new Exhibition Palace, Convent of the Visitation hotel to reallocate funds to new priorities);
⚫ Creation of a support fund modeled on July 14th, initiated by the city of Nice, to support independent businesses, artisans, restaurateurs, and professionals in the tourism sector.
⚫ List cultural and sports associations, collectives, non-subsidized small theaters, intermittent performers, artists, festivals, etc., and propose a solidarity fund;
⚫ Help hoteliers accommodate students in difficulty until the end of the academic year;
⚫ In addition to government measures, release an exceptional fund to support modest households in difficulty and to compensate for losses due to technical unemployment for the most modest incomes (<1500 € net);
⚫ Monthly food vouchers worth 100 € per child for the poorest families;
⚫ Extension of annual subscriptions to public transport by 6 months;
⚫ Exemption from the payment of social housing rents for Nice tenants who experience a substantial loss of income during the confinement period;
⚫ Issuance of an anti-eviction order for individuals without an alternative housing solution.
