Aware of the economic and social difficulties caused by the crisis, President Charles Ange Ginesy signed an agreement for the weekly distribution of nearly 1,800 quality meals cooked by the staff of the CADAM’s Inter-Administrative Restaurant. This signing took place in the presence of Eric Ciotti, departmental councillors, and the presidents of the two associations.
“The Departmental Council of Alpes-Maritimes is very pleased that the RIA, the collective catering structure that serves the agents of the Department and the State throughout the year, is contributing to the solidarity effort,” emphasized Charles Ange Ginésy. “Today, in this unprecedented crisis, the community is mobilized alongside two major representatives of social action in Alpes-Maritimes. Thus, we wanted to give these partners access to a food support system, through the Inter-Administrative Restaurant (RIA) which contributes to significantly increasing the number of meals distributed, a precious support indeed during this period. We know these associations well and have supported them for years. Their actions are necessary, and we are proud to stand by them.”
To support vulnerable groups during this public health crisis, the Department is strengthening its support for the most impoverished people by mobilizing an emergency food aid system.
Thus, under the leadership and financial support of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, the association “Le Mets des Anges,” which manages the inter-administrative restaurant of CADAM, provides these two associations with free hot meals each week. “In total, up to 1,800 meals are distributed to the MIR association and Secours Populaire, which will then be served by their volunteers,” explained Charles Ange Ginesy.
This operation started on June 8, 2020, and will be maintained until the end of the public health emergency, to support the most vulnerable in Nice and throughout all distribution locations.
These two charitable associations work year-round to accompany and support people in difficulty, in situations of poverty, precariousness, or exclusion. They organize weekly actions of hot meal distribution, food packages, and outreach programs. “Beyond all the economic aid, there is a need to continue the chain of solidarity like the one presented today. The Department of Alpes-Maritimes supports these associations, more than twenty in total. We need them. Behind each volunteer, there is immense generosity! Thank you for your mobilization. Rest assured of our ongoing commitment,” said Eric Ciotti.
The representatives of the two associations concluded with these thanks. Marc Maisonneuve, MIR association: “Generally, we distribute between 180 and 250 meals per evening. On Monday, we distributed 480 meals. These figures are alarming and demonstrate that we are facing a real problem. Thank you to the Department of Alpes-Maritimes for supporting us in our mission, both financially and morally.” Stéphane Chenevas-Paule, Secours Populaire: “The valuable help from the Department allows us to face the influx of requests we have been confronted with since the ongoing health crisis. A new audience is now reaching out to us; they are self-employed individuals and students deprived of jobs during this period.”
