Started a year ago, the redevelopment work on the western exit of the Mathis road had been interrupted. It has just resumed. Eventually, the A8 highway and Mathis road will be connected by a tunnel.
For years, over 30,000 vehicles pass every day at the foot of the buildings. Noise and pollution cause significant nuisances.
The entrance of a 1,200-meter tunnel is planned to be under the current Saint-Augustin station. This SNCF station will then be relocated 500 meters away, in the future multimodal exchange hub. Set to be delivered in a year, it will also include a bus station and access to tram line 2.
This slightly over one-kilometer tunnel will ensure the connection between the exit of the expressway and the highway.
The construction will therefore involve two phases, starting with the realization of
This covered route, while maintaining traffic with a detour, then from 2023, the exit of the tunnel on Grenoble road with direct access to the A8 highway.
Cost of the works: 72 million euros, currently funded by the State, the metropolis, and the region.
