“Culture promotes openness to others and individual emancipation. It is also the result of intense work carried out by professionals who must be supported at all costs during a period when their ability to act is challenged.” – With these words, Renaud Muselier announced the implementation of the first phase of the “Terre de Culture Plan” for the region’s sectors of books, culture, visual and plastic arts, cinema, audiovisual, and live performance.


Thus, an initial installment of €3.2M from the exceptional €5M Fund allocated to Culture by the Sud Region is entering its operational phase. This will be followed in October by measures aimed at stimulating the revival of cultural activity throughout the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

In detail:

The book and reading sector benefits from:

• An emergency fund for independent bookstores in the Sud Region, endowed with €300,000,
• An emergency fund for publishers in the Sud Region, endowed with €200,000,
• Support for literary and graphic authors in the Sud Region, endowed with €100,000, as part of an operation organized by the Regional Book Agency,
• An exceptional grant to the main generalist cultural magazine of the Sud Region, Zibeline, endowed with €50,000.

The visual and plastic arts sector benefits from:

• An exceptional acquisition fund for artists in the Sud Region, endowed with €150,000, which will be implemented by the Regional Contemporary Art Fund (FRAC) of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur,
• An exceptional project support fund in the Sud Region, with a total amount of €200,000,
• A production support fund in the Sud Region endowed with €300,000, intended for structures participating in the production and exhibition of works,
• Increased support for the Parallèles du Sud, the program led by the Sud Region as part of the Manifesta contemporary art biennale, endowed with €35,000.

The cinema and audiovisual sector benefits from:

• Exceptional support for the grouped projects of production companies in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, endowed with €400,000,
• Exceptional support for the reopening of independent cinemas in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, endowed with €300,000,
• Reinforcement of writing grants for authors in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, endowed with €50,000.

The performing arts sector benefits from:

• A support fund entrusted to the National Music Center, endowed with €400,000,
• A solidarity support fund for companies supported by the Region that are struggling due to the cancellation of their tours, endowed with €570,000,
• Strengthened carte blanche opportunities for performing artists, with an additional €95,000,
• A fund for aids, capped at €2,000, granted to “hindered” artists wishing to resume their rehearsal work, endowed with a €50,000 envelope entrusted to ARSUD.
