The commemoration took place in the presence of Catherine Moreau, Deputy Mayor, Jean-Marc Giaume, Deputy Mayor, and Olivier Robaut, President of the French Remembrance Association.
The Marseillaise resonates in the Libรฉration district. A beautiful coincidence. In the heart of the Villa Thiole garden, elected officials, officers, and children gathered to commemorate the Resistance. โWe gather to commemorate and we commemorate to gather,โ expressed the President of the French Remembrance Association during a speech in memory of the resistance fighters.
Catherine Moreau wished to remind the children of the meaning of the term “resistanceโ: โResistance carries a positive connotation to fight against any illegitimate regime. Choosing to resist means choosing not to remain silent any longer and to resist for the same values of freedom and fraternity.โ
Unusual Participants
In preparation for this ceremony, the Maralpin Genealogical Circle intervened in classes to introduce the role and importance of the Resistance. Noteworthy is the active participation of fifth-grade students from the St Barthรฉlรฉmy mixed 1, Ronchรจse, and Nikaรฏa schools. After a minute of silence, it was in chorus and accompanied by the sound of a saxophone that the students sang the Marseillaise in memory of Jean Moulin and the resistance fighters.
Lastly, a prestigious guest honored the event with her presence: the daughter of Henriette Dubois. A figure of the Resistance, Henriette Dubois joined the Communist Youth in 1937 at the age of 17. From 1942, she was responsible for reproducing and distributing the newspaper “LโHumanitรฉ” in Nice. In 1943, she became a liaison agent for the FTP (Francs-tireurs et Partisans) for the southern zone.
At the end of the ceremony, the students received a diploma for their participation in this 6th National Day of the Resistance.
