In the evening, the Departmental Council responded following the announcement of the various results from the second round of municipal elections in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The president of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles Ange Ginésy, commented on the overall result of the second round of the municipal election, which will allow the department to maintain its majority despite an extremely low voter turnout (27.75%, or just under 60,000 voters).
“This second round took place in a chaotic context of the pandemic. These municipal elections, without an electoral campaign and without voter mobilization, led to an abnormal disinterest for a mayoral election. I would like to highlight the notable victories of the mayors of major cities supported by The Republicans, whom I congratulate. This includes Christian Estrosi, who is brilliantly embarking on a third term, Jean-Claude Guibal, and Louis Nègre with significant victories. Congratulations also for the successes achieved by the Republican Departmental Councillors, Michèle Paganin and Patrick Césari, which further strengthen the departmental majority. The City of Vence returns to one of its former mayors, Régis Lebigre, whom I congratulate for his strong return to municipal affairs. Despite the extremely difficult electoral context, the people of the Maritime Alps chose to re-elect or appoint experienced men and women to lead the executives. The Departmental Council, as the foremost local authority, will be there to support them in their projects.”
