André Liautaud Road Tunnel: NGE selected by the Metropolis for its safety upgrade

Latest News

The compliance work for the André Liautaud tunnel has been entrusted to the NGE group. According to the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, the construction and public works company has developed a plan that meets all the safety expectations.

Starting in September, night work (9:30 PM to 5:30 AM) will take place at the André Liautaud road tunnel. These hours are scheduled so that it remains accessible to motorists during the day. The Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur has entrusted this work to a consortium of companies involving two subsidiaries of the NGE group – NGE GC (acting as representative) for the civil engineering and NICOLO for the pipes and networks, as well as Satelec, La Nouvelle Sirolaise, and Gagneraud Construction. Michel Charroin, Deputy Regional Director of NGE PACA, is optimistic about this several-month-long task:

“This work represents a real challenge for our teams. The coordination of the work will be highly complex. However, we are accustomed to working in urban environments and under heavy traffic conditions. We will deploy all our expertise acquired from other similar projects to make this project a success.”

For 18 months, the 2,770-meter-long tunnel will undergo safety upgrades while minimizing nighttime noise as much as possible. Therefore, 25 collaborators will be working to ensure the public can continue to safely traverse the tunnel during the day. Several procedures are planned for this purpose:

  • fire protection of the tunnel vault using sprayed concrete
  • removal of lead dust present in the tunnel
  • creation of underground structures adjacent to the tunnel to house emergency exits
  • roadworks and various network works on the surface around the emergence points of the emergency exits and within the tunnel
  • maintenance of the tunnel equipment throughout the duration of the contract.
