Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, and Christophe Castaner, Minister of the Interior, visited the former Saint-Roch Hospital this Friday to launch the construction of the future Hôtel des Polices, scheduled for completion in 2024.
An innovative and unique project in Europe bringing together 2,000 officers (1,200 from the National Police and 800 from the Municipal Police). This building (40,000m²) will put an end to the current working conditions that are not the best.
It will be ultra-secure and connected. The acquisition of this site, owned by the CHU, was finalized following the City Council’s meeting on Monday, voted unanimously.*
Christian Estrosi adds, “We must give a noble place to the teams to work in the best conditions.” The Prefect of the PACA region, Pierre Dartout, praised the location that will house an urban supervision center, “Innovation is a good thing,” before mentioning the duration of the work: “2024 is a quick timeline for operations of such importance.”
Christophe Castaner, Minister of the Interior, emphasizes “An exemplary project, Nice is developing significantly.” He does not hesitate to mention the cost of the work, approximately 160 million euros “I will be frank, it will be more expensive than other projects. Nice benefits from cutting-edge technology, an example being facial recognition used during the last carnival. It’s a connected project, I would even say trendy. The intelligence center is about inventing the future,” he states.
A question remains unanswered regarding the administrative detention center which may or may not be relocated to Saint-Roch Hospital.

This Friday, he took the opportunity to make inappropriate controversy over the issue of unpaid overtime owed to police officers by the state. He revisited a topic he is passionate about: the issue of unpaid overtime for internal security force agents.
Christophe Castaner reminded of the average salary increase for these officers “Under my leadership, the average salaries of the agents will increase by 100 euros per month.”
Éric Ciotti quickly retorted “For now, you owe them 300 million hours of overtime.”
“No, I owe them nothing” – the Minister, the real one, replied sharply.
