As part of “My Summer in Nice,” the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis is launching the first photography contest on marine biodiversity. This is a unique photo competition where images will be judged based on the number and rarity of marine species!
The objective of the contest is to contribute to the Coastal Biodiversity Atlas through a form of participatory inventory. Developed with the support of the French Biodiversity Office, this atlas helps improve the consideration of sensitive coastal areas from Cagnes-sur-Mer to Cap d’Ail and better guide the ecological protection and restoration measures to be implemented.
This Atlas has two components: the study of nursery areas of shallow waters (a favored refuge and growth site for many fish species at their juvenile stage) and participatory reports and inventories (engaging sea users and collecting naturalist data).
The information collected from participants, in terms of species presence and location, will enhance the naturalist knowledge of the marine coast.
The contest is open to everyone until September 30th, midnight. The results will be announced in October 2020, and the winning photos will be exhibited in 2021.
