This Monday evening featured an “open-air” performance of Moliรจre’s famous Tartuffe. A show that managed to make the numerous spectators present at Place St-Roch laugh and relax. A convivial moment guaranteed!
The city of Nice’s goal for this summer is clear: make culture accessible for all. In this spirit, the city hall had already organized performances at Jardin Durandy and on Place des Vignerons. But there was no question of leaving the St-Roch district behind! Thus, two shows were scheduled for August 17th and 18th. To perform this essential play, the Thรฉรขtre de lโImpertinent company gave all its energy. The captivating direction is led by Guillaume Morana, a figure in Nice’s theater scene for having created the first permanent professional company in Nice. Although the play is well-known to the general public, it seems modernized by a very energetic performance. The actors are in constant motion: they stand up, sit back down, cross the stageโฆ A great way to keep the audience always engaged and attentive to the play.
A Play in All Simplicity
Due to its size and shape, Place St-Roch constitutes a very intimate setting for a performance. The aim was not to “dazzle” but rather to create a soft and warm atmosphere. On a small, slightly elevated stage, only a few white chairs form the set. The costumes are simple: white for the ladies and beige for the men. Visually, everything is harmonious and strangely soothing. The music played between each scene contributes to this ambiance, sure to charm both young and old!
