Yesterday, at the Saint-Isidore Leisure Center in Nice, the City presented its “Planète Eco’Hérente” center from the “NISSA XXI” program dedicated to eco-citizenship and sustainable development, for children aged 6 to 12.
“Ecology and sustainable development are everyone’s business,” says Jean-Marc Giaume, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of education and extracurricular activities. That is why the City decided to implement this “NISSA XXI” program. It aims to enhance and transmit cultural and historical heritage to young people from Nice. And above all, to “pass on strong themes to the children.”
This “Planète Eco’Hérente” center is part of the four themed centers implemented by the program. “There will be three more,” explains Jean-Marc Giaume. The themes will be: the Francophonie, Niçois culture, prehistory, and archaeology.
Very varied themes that children will be able to study through engaging and enriching workshops. All this is part of the youth policy put in place by Christian Estrosi. In total, the City of Nice has 57 leisure centers, where about 5,500 children attend during holidays and other times.
Children More Aware
Yesterday morning, upon arriving at the “Planète Eco’Hérente” center, one could see the work accomplished by the children. Numerous projects are displayed on the walls, all around the themes of ecology, biodiversity, the environment, species preservation…
For this visit, 24 children participated in the many workshops offered. Including two very interesting ones:
– The “Treasure of the Sea” game: a map of the seashore and seabed accompanied by images of objects, animals, and others. The children had to place the images at their place of life.
For example, they would place a boat on the surface and a sea urchin at the bottom of the water, but always with clarity and awareness. “The plastic bag, you shouldn’t throw it into the sea,” exclaims a child upon seeing it. Watching them play, one realizes they are truly engaged and enthusiastic.
– “Zero Waste” theme: manual activities based on recycling (papers, newspapers…), with the creation of a small paper bag from a newspaper and biodegradable toothpaste. They then participated in a sorting session, to teach them which bins to use for waste.
With this “Planète Eco’Hérente” leisure center, young people from Nice will be able to become good eco-citizens in the years to come.
