The exhibition “Contamination” by contemporary artist Mauro Maugliani at Espace Lympia

On the occasion of the 19th Italian Language Week and the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, the Consulate General of Italy in Nice wanted to present an exhibition by painter Mauro Maugliani at the Espace Lympia from October 19th to November 2nd, designed as a tribute to the great genius.

The graphic and pictorial works on display present the artist’s world, his artistic roots always connected, and particularly on this occasion, to the Italian pictorial tradition, through large-scale works created in silverpoint, a technique much loved by Maugliani. The mark left by the silver oxidizes over time, allowing the work to continue its mysterious journey, a chromatic transformation beyond the artist’s control; the work thus assumes its own expressive autonomy.

The connection with the great Maestro is also found in the choice of portraiture and anatomy, a fundamental aesthetic theme to penetrate Maugliani’s work and his anti-portraits, lost gazes of a society in crisis, and the innocence of children, the only hope for a better world.

The pathos of the exhibition, which will contain around twenty works, aims through the still unexplored world of contemporary figurative art to create an encounter between the general public and art in the reciprocity of emotional interaction.
