During a press conference held via video conference, Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, spoke about the health situation.

At the end of January, Christian Estrosi wanted to provide an update on the health crisis caused by Covid-19. The mayor of Nice specifically relied on the latest analysis results of wastewater to assess the virus’s evolution in the city of Nice. The situation remains concerning in the Alpes-Maritimes with an incidence rate significantly higher than the national average.

The English variant of Covid-19 is also present in the department. “Faced with this situation, I want stricter measures,” explains Christian Estrosi. “I am asking the government for more vaccines. We need to accelerate the vaccination process.” The Alpes-Maritimes also has an aging population.

The mayor of Nice therefore wants to speed up the fight against the virus: “We are the department most affected by the proportion of people aged 75 and over compared to the national average. Along with other mayors in the department, we have collectively requested the Health Minister to send us more doses, and we are awaiting a response that we hope will be positive,” explains Christian Estrosi.

Seasonal rentals banned during February holidays

Furthermore, the mayor of Nice also spoke about the situation in schools. Olivier Vรฉran, the Minister of Solidarity and Health, had announced mass testing in schools affected by the virus. This was partly rejected by Christian Estrosi: “For children, I have reached out to the minister because we do not want to traumatize them with nasopharyngeal tests when we have the opportunity to use saliva tests at the University Hospital.”

In conclusion, the mayor of Nice announced the implementation of an order concerning seasonal rentals. No rentals will be allowed in Nice between February 6 and 20. This ban may be extended depending on the evolution of Covid-19.

“Today, we all stand to gain by winning this battle against the virus. Seasonal activities can be even more enhanced this summer if we manage to overcome the virus by then,” assures Christian Estrosi. Strong announcements made by the mayor of Nice, more determined than ever to combat this health crisis.
