The Gym is mobilizing for the “Red & Black Blood Drive”.

Latest News

As every year for the past eight years, OGC Nice has partnered with the French Blood Establishment (EFS) for the “Red & Black Blood Drive.” The donations take place in a dedicated area at Place Masséna.

The event has been ongoing since Tuesday at 1 PM and concludes today, Friday, October 23rd. The collection is conducted only from 1 PM to 6:30 PM over these four days. The 8th edition began with the presence of three OGC Nice legends: Lionel Letizi, Emerse Faé, and Cédric Varrault. These individuals are currently members of the youth academy staff. They will donate their blood and aim to encourage passersby to do the same.

The goal of the EFS and the Gym is to receive over 800 donations. As of Tuesday afternoon, the count had surpassed 80. It is noteworthy that this year is particularly important due to the global health crisis. Since the start of the school year, blood product reserves have been depleting particularly quickly. Therefore, unprecedented measures are being taken, with a larger area set up to adhere to social distancing rules and an appointment system to avoid large gatherings.

For those planning to donate blood, here are the conditions and the donation procedure:

– In practice :

  • Anyone aged 18 to 70 years, weighing more than 50 kg, and deemed eligible after the pre-donation interview, can donate blood.
  • After the age of 60, the first donation is subject to the discretion of an EFS doctor.
  • Men can donate up to six times a year, and women up to four times.
  • There must be a minimum interval of eight weeks between blood donations.

– Procedure :

  • Schedule an appointment in advance at: https://mon-rdv-dondesang.efs.sante.fr or https://efs.link/P8obg
  • Do not be fasting; ensure proper hydration before the donation.
  • The four stages of blood donation take one hour.
  • For a first-time donation, an identification document (ID card, driver’s license, health insurance card) is required.
  • It is not necessary to know your blood type.
