The coronavirus epidemic has just surpassed the symbolic threshold of one million detected cases this Friday, October 23, since the disease appeared in France at the end of January 2020. A total of 1,041,075 positive tests have been reported since then, according to data from Santรฉ Publique France and the Ministry of Health. Over the last 24 hours, 42,032 new cases have been detected, setting a new record.

In the last 24 hours, 184 people have died in hospitals, and 114 in nursing homes and medico-social establishments since the last report dated October 20. In total, there are 34,508 deaths to be mourned.

Currently, 15,008 people are hospitalized, including 2,441 in intensive care, which is an increase of 122 in 24 hours. The test positivity rate continues to climb, reaching 15.1% compared to 14.3% the previous day, and only 4.5% in early September.
