Sport: the KID VTT 06, the “cycling know-how”

Latest News

As every year, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes (CDOS 06) organizes events for young people as a way to instill the values of sports. Among these events is the KID VTT 06. This is a challenge open to all cycling federations as well as schools (with UNSS licenses) with the goal of giving young people the opportunity to participate in major competitions and for technical advisors to widen their scouting field.

For the 2021 edition, the KID VTT 06, managed by the CDOS 06 in close collaboration with the departmental committees 06 of the FFC, UFOLEP, and FSGT, took place last Sunday in compliance with health guidelines. Around forty children, divided into four groups of different levels, participated in the event and had a great experience.

Hiking at Mount Cima, mechanical workshops, orientation…

A magnificent hike at Mount Cima near Aspremont for the older kids, another one focused on orientation for the intermediate level, mechanical workshops, learning to ride on the road with a mini traffic prevention circuit, and gymkhana sessions (an obstacle course) for the younger ones. This is what the CDOS 06 planned for this 2021 edition. With backpacks in hand, helmets and gloves on, surgical masks on their mouths, the children had a sports experience accompanied by instructors provided by the mountain biking clubs in the department participating in this initiative.

The event started mid-morning. For the younger ones, workshops were held in rotation, mechanical sessions led by Bouticycle Nice, a gymkhana session, a road circuit simulation, and a mountain biking course adapted to their level. Meanwhile, the older participants directly took part in the mountain biking and orientation test. A lunch break was scheduled for everyone exactly at noon before resuming activities.

Progress and conclusion of the KID VTT 06

From 10 AM to 4 PM, participants could breathe in the fresh air while cycling together, surrounded by instructors and guides specialized in mountain biking. Starting from the Brocarel stadium in Tourette Levens, the young aspiring cyclists, after finishing their race, received gifts and prizes from the CDOS 06 and the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council, in the presence of the representative from the Tourette-Levens town hall, who kindly provided the venue for the enjoyment of these young individuals. To top it all off, there was a photo session with Hugo Marini, the French junior downhill mountain biking champion. An unforgettable sports experience indeed.
