For over a month, the Alpes-Maritimes have recorded almost no precipitation and even registered a record amount of sunshine in January (213 hours). Consequences: the fire risk is high and the prefecture had to take certain measures.

Until February 20th inclusive, burning vegetation will be prohibited. The lack of precipitation, high sunshine, very low snow cover in the mountains, and the wind are conducive to fires.

Therefore, the prefecture issued a decree: “The burning of vegetation is prohibited across the entire territory of the Alpes-Maritimes. Directed burnings carried out by the sole competent services of the State, local authorities, fire and rescue services, and the ONF (National Forestry Office) remain authorized during the mobile red period outside air pollution episodes in the considered area,” writes the prefecture.

This ban is valid until February 20 but may be extended beyond this date.
