The French National Authority for Health adds self-tests to the massive Covid screening arsenal. They can be used by asymptomatic individuals over the age of 15, according to the HAS.
The self-test provides results in “20 to 30 minutes,” indicated Prof. Dominique Le Guludec, president of the health authority. The result appears similar to a pregnancy test.
If it is positive, the diagnosis must be confirmed with an RT-PCR test, which also allows for the identification of the variant.
The nasal swab done for the self-test is less deep (3-4 cm) and less uncomfortable than the nasopharyngeal swab for the standard RT-PCR tests.
