The city of Nice is reinstating the remote shopping assistance program for the most vulnerable and at-risk individuals. The platform operates from Monday to Friday.
Initially implemented during the first lockdown, the shopping assistance platform has been reactivated for a few days now. The aim is to provide support to the most vulnerable individuals by allowing them to stay at home during this exceptional health crisis.
The initiative is composed of several city of Nice agents and numerous volunteers, including students. Currently, three people are responsible for answering calls from eligible individuals at the following number: 04 97 13 32 92. To qualify for this assistance, one must be over 65 years old or have a disability card.
Once the call is made, volunteers are responsible for contacting those requesting help to establish a list of needed groceries. As of today, 32 employees working remotely provide support for this endeavor and centralize the various requests to allow the final link in the chain to conduct shopping in supermarkets. Volunteers complete an average of 90 deliveries daily using the central kitchen’s trucks.
Each delivery is made within a maximum of three days, prioritized according to a pre-established order. This wave of solidarity is a relief during this challenging time for seniors, most of whom are deprived of their families. “We ensure to note all other needs such as pharmacy requirements and psychological needs. We strive to redirect them to the right contacts,” explains Valérie Oppedisano, who is in charge of the platform. “There is indeed a whole chain in place, and it is magnificent.”
