Nice welcomes its first Europe Direct Center Nice Côte d’Azur. Funded by the European Commission and supported by the Southern Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, in partnership with institutional actors, the academic world, the economic sphere, and local associations, this Center will provide citizens with information about the European Union, its functioning, actions, and funding.
“I am delighted with the confidence given to us by the European Union by selecting our application. This European information center is setting up in Nice, in a Notre-Dame area that is undergoing revitalization, which already hosts the headquarters of French Tech Côte d’Azur, a true ecosystem housing innovative start-ups. Thanks to this tool and this beautiful symbol, the Metropolis will further affirm its status as a major European metropolis and its contribution to building a tangible Europe, cater to the needs of citizens and territories,” explains the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.
“This center will bring Europe to life daily. It will play an essential role in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe, which will be launched on Europe Day, May 9, and the French Presidency of the European Union from January 1 to June 30, 2022,” he adds.
Under the impetus of Magali Altounian, Deputy Mayor in charge of European institutions and the City’s Outreach and Metropolitan Councilor, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis responded a few months ago to the call for applications for the creation of a Europe Direct Center funded by the European Commission to offer a free information service that answers citizens’ questions about the European Union, its functioning, actions, and funding.
For several years, the Metropolis has demonstrated its European openness and ambition, particularly through the management of European funds, involvement in numerous European networks and collaborative projects, strengthened presence in Brussels, organizing major events on Europe at the local level, and supporting associations and partners working for European ideas.
The Metropolis has wished to go further in its awareness and communication strategy by hosting a flagship site on Europe. The center will bring citizens closer to European institutions, assist in finding European funds for businesses and municipalities, establish a program of actions labeled by the European Commission’s representation in the territory, and spread Europe from central Var to Liguria, on the riviera, middle, and highlands, in urban and rural areas.
The Europe Direct Center Nice Côte d’Azur will open in early May at 14 Rue Paganini in Nice.
