Covid-19: Christian Estrosi Challenges the Government

Latest News

On Monday, December 28th, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, convened the city’s local public health council and called for preventive and anticipatory measures from the government.

The COVID-19 epidemic report for the past weeks continues to rise and remains a concern for the residents. These indicators also reflect a relaxation in the city and the Municipal Police’s vigilance since the start of the Christmas holidays regarding the virus.

Observing the situation, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, and Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region, convened all public and private health stakeholders via videoconference yesterday morning to assess the situation. They unanimously issued recommendations for prevention and anticipation. Furthermore, Christian Estrosi calls on the government to implement various measures within 24 hours:

Vaccination campaign:

Given the significant risk of an influx of patients potentially overwhelming services in the next 10 to 15 days, the Mayor of Nice is requesting that Health Minister Olivier Vรฉran initiate the vaccination campaign without delay, starting this week, in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Restriction of cross-border travel:

With Italy:

– Prohibition of crossing the border for those without a necessity (such as a work certificate).
– Requesting reciprocity for the quarantine applied in Italy.

With Monaco:

– Asking Prime Minister Jean Castex to engage with his Monegasque counterpart to ensure the same French health protocol is applied in the Principality.
– Control of travel reasons at the border (work certificate).

Strengthening of controls at Nice Cรดte d’Azur airport:

Currently, only flights from Tunisia require a PCR test upon arrival in Nice. A request to the government to extend this requirement to other origins and all airlines, under penalty of prohibition from serving the Nice metropolis.

Strengthening of controls in stores:

– Reinforcing controls in certain stores, especially take-out sales locations where safety measures are sometimes neglected.
– Issuance of a municipal decree to limit the attendance of large stores to 50% of the thresholds defined by the government.

Wastewater analysis:

Thanks to the analysis of treated water at the Haliotis station, we can identify the most contaminated areas: requesting that the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes use these results to potentially adjust the curfew, moving its start to 6 p.m. with reinforced controls.
