Latest News

The 12th edition of the European Archaeology Days (EAD), taking place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, assigned by the Ministry of Culture to the National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap), offers a unique opportunity to delve into 21st-century archaeology.

These days aim to raise public awareness of the richness and diversity of archaeological heritage, the results of research, as well as its various disciplines and methods.

Since 2010, the National Archaeology Days have been raising public awareness of the diversity of archaeological heritage, research results, and different specializations and excavation methods. In 2020, they became the European Archaeology Days (EAD), inviting 47 member countries of the Council of Europe to participate.

As every year for the past 11 years, all actors in the world of archaeology mobilize to share the wealth and behind-the-scenes aspects of this science with the widest audience. Archaeologists and researchers take turns leading workshops and engaging with you on their experiences, specializations, and latest discoveries…

The program includes fun and interactive exploration of Prehistory and Archaeology: prehistoric adornments, a fire-lighting workshop, and discovery of Roman games. Numerous workshops and activities across all disciplines of Archaeology: ceramics, burial excavation, underwater excavation. Site visits, guided tours. Presentations of archaeological careers.

Two temporary exhibitions are offered by the Museums of Archaeology:

*Now, the Origin at the Museum of Prehistory Terra Amata (from June 19 to September 21)*

For several years, Martin Miguel has been developing work on the origin of Art and its very nature. From Lascaux to Chauvet, he examines masterpieces of prehistoric art by creating concrete and paper works that mimic the forms of Paleolithic cave art figures.

*Sosno Squats the Antique โ€“ Museum of Archaeology of Nice / Cimiez (until January 23, 2022)*

Renowned artist, painter, photographer, sculptor, and theoretician of his own artistic journey, Sacha Sosno is the subject of this major exhibition on the ancient site of the former city of Cemenelum. Over 70 works are presented in situ, displayed among Roman remains and in the museum’s halls.
