It’s the Italian sports media outlet “La Gazetta dello Sport” that is the source of this information: the 2024 Tour de France will finish in Nice!
This statement is particularly surprising because the finish has taken place since 1975 on “the most beautiful avenue in the world,” the Champs-Elysées. However, according to the Italian newspaper, there is a specific reason that would justify this change.
Indeed, the dates of this Tour de France coincide almost exactly with another major sporting event that is highly anticipated: the 2024 Olympic Games. The 2024 Tour de France will start on June 29th while the finish will take place on July 21st, six days before the opening of the Olympics. A finish in the capital of the French Riviera would avoid requiring Paris to implement an even more complex organization and security arrangement.
If this decision is confirmed, some riders might express their dissatisfaction because during the 2020 Tour de France, more than 100 cyclists fell during the Nice stage.
