Since the beginning of March, the PACA region has doubled its aid for converting a vehicle to bioethanol. The amount has therefore increased from 250 to 500 euros. This article revisits this subsidy, as well as the reasons for opting for a conversion to biofuel.
Aid Ending on June 30
Until June 30, the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur (PACA) region covers the installation of the bioethanol conversion kit up to 500 euros. This includes the supply and installation of the device by an authorized installer, with a limit of 50% of the cost. Once installed, this system allows fuel savings of up to 40% on a full tank. This is a significant point, even though it represents a certain investment. The price of a kit can indeed range between 700 and 1,600 euros. Note that this aid has been extended to maritime professionals and pleasure boats. But what are the reasons for converting a means of transportation, like a car, to bioethanol?
Why Convert Your Vehicle to Bioethanol?
The main reason for converting your vehicle to biofuel remains its price, which is lower than that of gasoline or diesel. It is indeed less taxed by the State, which seeks to encourage its use. Although a car consumes slightly more, the savings realized in the long term are certainly present. This trend is confirmed by the recent rise in fuel prices. More ecological and produced from cereals or beets, E85 emits 90% fewer fine particles and 50% less CO2 compared to gasoline. Furthermore, it does not require drilling and thus has a neutral carbon footprint regarding its production. Today, bioethanol is incorporated in small amounts in some fuels, such as Unleaded 95-E10. And if you decide to change your vehicle and purchase a new one, in addition to installing a bioethanol kit, take the opportunity to change the vehicle registration holder. Indeed, an update of this needs to be made when a conversion to bioethanol is carried out.
Bioethanol Conversion, What Are the Consequences for the Vehicle Registration?
The registration of a modified car complies with very specific rules. Therefore, the vehicle registration must be redone in the case of a conversion to E85. The process must be completed within one month from when the kit is installed. After this period, the driver and owner of the vehicle are subject to a fixed fine of 135 euros, which can reach up to 750 euros in case of an increase. Once the modification is made, the car is considered eco-friendly, which allows the price of the vehicle registration to be reduced. Thus, it is possible to benefit from a total exemption on the cost of the regional tax. You will only need to apply for registration via the National Agency for Secured Documents website or through any other site approved by the Public Treasury and authorized by the Ministry of the Interior.
