The young Azurรฉen Charles Henon, 2020 French sailing champion, reflects on his season, ambitions, and projects.
The end of last season was “cool,” as he told me, thanks to his French champion title. But for now, this new season is empty due to Covid-19. He hasn’t competed in any events between February and April. However, in May, he participated in the Italian national championships, a competition he described as “mentally challenging,” mainly due to the presence of professionals and future Olympic participants.
What’s coming up?
“The national cup in Rome at the end of July, as well as the French championships of Hobi Cat 16 (his sailing platform) and in Martigues, not to forget the European championships on the Costa Brava in Spain in September.”
In parallel, the young athlete is a partner with the Adrien association, which organizes outings with sick children. As part of this association, he aims to organize a crossing he calls “the Crossing of Angels.” The goal is to set off from St Tropez and arrive in Calvi (in Corsica) on a Hobi Cat 16, something that has never been done before. To realize this project, he is seeking funding and ways to publicize it to open an online fundraiser for the association.
Finally, as a last objective, he has set himself the goal of breaking the world speed record on a Hobi Cat 16, with the current record being around 25 knots, or approximately 46 km/h.
Good luck to Charles for his projects and his season. To follow him, here is his teamโs Instagram account as well as his website.
