Finally, after years of discussions, a solution is being initiated to ease the isolation of the Ariane neighborhood and indirectly improve traffic in the Paillon Valley.
Will the controversies that kept reigniting this issue come to an end?
Christian Estrosi, in his capacity as President of the Metropolis, has pulled a solution out of the hat: a high-level service bus will serve the eastern neighborhoods of Nice on a dedicated route.
A more connected and reliable bus network. This is what the residents of Ariane have been hoping for over the past several years. Two months after announcing that the tram would not serve Ariane, Christian Estrosi proposed today an alternative to bridge this gap. A high-level service bus (BRT) will connect downtown Nice with its eastern neighborhoods on a dedicated course.
“The dedicated BRT solution is the best choice. Its investment costs four times less than the tram. It also takes less time to implement. The works can be completed in three years,” asserts the President of the Metropolis.
The goal: invigorate the use of transportation by offering a more regular and better-suited bus line frequency. Additionally, the possibility to travel without polluting. These autonomous electric buses are expected to gradually replace the 1,200 diesel buses in the metropolitan area.
Until now, only bus line 16 provided a connection to the city center. “The lack of mobility in Ariane is burdensome. Many young people and seniors cannot easily get around due to transportation issues,” explains Alain Meinardi, president of the Nice Ariane Development Association, “this bus can be a real solution.”
