Sports clubs from the Alpes-Maritimes that have achieved a national title or promotion to a higher division were honored during a reception in the department’s gardens.
There are 2,500 clubs with nearly 250,000 licensed members contributing to the region’s dynamism. Among them, 110 teams compete at a national championship level, and 16 of these teams excelled in the 2017/2018 season:
Volleyball:ย โ AS CANNES โ NICE VOLLEY BALL โ RC CANNES โ US CAGNES VOLLEY โ STADE LAURENTIN โ OLYMPIQUE MOUGINS
Handball:ย โ VILLENEUVE LOUBET HANDBALL โ AS CANNES MANDELIEU HANDBALL

Other disciplines:ย โ OGCN FENCING โ NICE CAVIGAL TABLE TENNIS โ TOPFIT SQUASHย โ STADE NIรOIS RUGBY โ CANNES CHESS
The excellent national season in the Azur region stems from an ambitious departmental sports policy with financial effort directed towards the clubs, amounting to โฌ4.6 million for operations and โฌ260,000 for investment. Furthermore, the department readily organizes and sponsors major sports events like the Alpes-Maritimes Marathon, the Ultra-Trail Cรดte dโAzur Mercantour, and the Europรฉtanque.
To effectively train future champions, the department has several sport ambassadors. Indeed, following the promotions of Alain BERNARD (2014), Victoria RAVVA (2015), JP DICK (2016), and Charlotte BONNET (2017), it introduced in February at the Allianz Riviera, the brilliant Emilie FER promotion, comprising 170 young athletes aged 11 to 16, all champions in 2017.
Finally, departmental initiatives (handisport 06) must be highlighted as they promote the increase in sports participation among people with disabilities. Thus, specific initiatives enable the practice of various activities such as:
- Handi Ski 06 (since 2011) โ Handi Sailing 06 (since 2006) โ Handi Tennis 06 (since 2007) โ Handi Horse Riding 06 (since 2010) โ Handi Air 06 (free flight since 2011) โ Handi Hiking 06 (since 2012)
