Two weeks before the launch of the East-West Line 2 of the Nice tramway, Christian Estrosi announced, this Friday, the fare details for this new line. Various festivities will also surround the inauguration weekend scheduled for Saturday, June 30, at 10 o’clock. This first section, which will eventually connect the port to the airport in 26 minutes, is eagerly anticipated by future users.
Regarding fares, the mayor of Nice emphasizes that the city offers one of the cheapest transport networks in France. Therefore, for this new tramway line, there will be no ticket price increase. Tickets will be sold, thanks in part to new digital ticket vending machines, at the current price of 1.50 euros, and 10 euros for 10 tickets. The mayor also took the opportunity to announce free rides on this new tram throughout the summer. According to Christian Estrosi, this is a way to get users accustomed but also to assess the impact on the bus networks and the roads of the metropolitan area.
Despite the installation of this first section with a tram every 15 minutes for its launch, Line 2 will be a significant change for residents. It will bring a new lease of life to many neighborhoods in the city, with better quality of life and a reduction in air pollution. According to the mayor of Nice, a study shows a decrease of 15% to 20% in vehicles on the roads throughout the entire agglomeration, thanks to the new tramway line.
This โhistoric moment,โ as the mayor described it, will be accompanied by fun and educational activities. BMX shows, concerts, an exhibition of old buses, and artworks will be available to discover along the route. Inaugurations are also on the agenda, such as a new Ligne dโAzur parking lot. The mayor praised this โpeaceful construction among all.โ
