The Pink Parade Nice Pride, a march for the visibility of sexual and gender diversities, organized by the association “AGLAE Azur et Diversités,” will take place this afternoon starting at 5 PM (gathering at Tête Carrée).
It is organized in the form of a march through the city’s streets.
The Pride Parade, since 2004, is part of an international LGBT movement linked to the Stonewall riots in 1969. The unfolding of Stonewall created a historical precedent for convergence of struggles among the gay, trans, Black, and Latino communities. Convergence against sexism, racism, discrimination, segregation…
In almost 50 years of activism and fights, women, gay men and lesbians, bisexuals, and trans people have certainly won major battles: birth control, abortion, marriage regardless of gender, to name only the most significant. Victories indeed, but at what cost?!
Since 2013 and the debates surrounding marriage for all, we have seen a resurgence of hatred towards differences, freeing up LGBT-phobic speech and actions. In 2018, the General States of Bioethics were often inundated by far-right and/or religious groups.
The debate on opening assisted reproductive technology to all women will revive the rejection and hatred of sexual and gender diversities.
