The green elected officials are using the UN climate report to reignite the controversy over the extension of T2 of the airport.

The 6th report from the UN’s climate experts highlights the disastrous consequences of climate change in the coming years, emphasizing the significant influence of human activities and urging ambitious policies to slow down the catastrophe.

Its reading emboldened Nice’s environmentalists who, in a formal letter addressed to the Mayor of Nice/President of the Metropole, call for the abandonment of the extension of Terminal 2 at Nice airport, a project they consider “climaticidal” and which they have opposed by all political and administrative means without success. The Prefecture had already approved the project. “We therefore appeal to your sense of responsibility and urge you to abandon the airport extension,” wrote the group of Nice elected officials. “In light of such upheavals, your obstinacy in supporting this extension could prove to be criminal,” conclude the green politicians.

On his social media, Christian Estrosi reacted to the IPCC report by defending his territorial Climate, Air, and Energy plan, supported by the city and the Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolis. “We have continued our efforts, notably by accelerating the decarbonization of transport, promoting an ambitious cycling plan, or by restoring nature to its place in the heart of Nice,” he wrote.

There is no doubt that this comment is not to the taste of the environmentalists, who, come the fall, will want to reignite their militant actions.
