Canceled last year due to the health crisis, the Ironman, one of the toughest competitions in the world, is back in Nice this weekend.

The event is scheduled, with the Ironman 70.3 taking place in Nice this Sunday, September 12, 2021.
As with other editions, the race consists of three stages. Athletes will first participate in a swimming event in the Mediterranean, then they will embark on a long bike ride in the Nice hinterland, and finally complete the race with a run within the time limit.
The best time ever recorded in this competition belongs to the British athlete Corinne Abraham for women (9 h 11 min 39 s) and the Belgian Frederik Van Lierde for men (8 h 8 min 59 s).

For the swimming event, the start will take place on Centenaire Beach at 6:25 a.m. for the pros, and then at 6:30 a.m. for age groups. This event consists of 2 loops of 1.9 kilometers each, which must be completed within a maximum of 2 hours and 15 minutes after the start.
The triathletes will then get on their bikes to cover a total of 180 kilometers through 17 towns and villages in the Nice hinterland.
Finally, they will have to complete the running event, the last stage of the competition, which consists of a 10.550-kilometer loop to be completed four times (42.195 kilometers) on the legendary Promenade des Anglais, which will be closed for the occasion.

The Ironman is an international competition that attracts the best international triathletes each year. Furthermore, the event serves as a qualifier for the World Championships and gathers around 3,000 participants annually.
