The Urban Planning and Architecture Forum, located at the heart of 109, a true hub of contemporary culture, presents us with two exhibitions. The first, Arboretum, explores the role of trees and vegetation within architecture itself. As for the Espaces possibles exhibition, it introduces us to “third places,” their concept, and their function in our modern society.
Arboretum: Trees as Architecture
The city of Nice is balanced between contemporary architecture and natural spaces. This is why the Urban Planning and Architecture Forum is offering this exhibition on trees and nature at the center of architecture. You can admire the exhibited works as a truly immersive walk. A third place refers to a building that has been repurposed for an entirely different function, or even to merge several functions. Third places are at the very center of architecture and projects of collaboration and socialization. Moreover, the Urban Planning and Architecture Forum is a perfect example of a third place. In fact, before its opening in 1999, it was a former slaughterhouse. The location was thus repurposed to become this space for cultural exchange and sharing.
