Women’s Basketball: The Laure Ecard International Tournament Returns for a 12th Edition

Latest News

Following a resumption in 2022, after a two-year absence due to the health crisis, the Laure Ecard tournament returns this year with a unique edition!

For the first time in its history, the U19 tournament will welcome non-European nations. With the presence of China, Brazil, Belgium (U20), and France, most teams are preparing for the World Cup, which will take place shortly thereafter in Madrid (Spain).

Under the auspices of the French Basketball Federation, the Southern League, and the Departmental Committee of Basketball of the Alpes-Maritimes, more than 50 volunteers from local clubs and the Nice department will be mobilized for the occasion.ย

Laure Ecard, forever in our memories

On April 6, 2008, Laure Ecard, a 16-year-old basketball player, lost her life in a terrible tragedy. Indeed, while returning from a trip, the French junior team of Nice Cavigal Olympic was involved in a traffic accident…ย

This tragedy, which moved the basketball community and beyond, did not leave the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, indifferent. He wished to pay tribute to the young player by establishing a basketball tournament in her memory.

After a first edition in 2010, the event, organized by the Union of Nice Basketball Societies, has continued to grow year after year to perpetuate Laure’s memory. A great showcase for the development of women’s sport in the Cรดte d’Azur!ย
