With the end of the holidays, the city of Nice is flooded with abandoned Christmas trees in the streets. That is why a collection operation has been launched to dispose of these trees that might clutter the city.
The collection of trees began this Tuesday, January 9 and will end on Monday, January 22. An operation that begins rather late compared to the end of the Christmas holidays. Since the collection takes place in enclosures, it was preferable to delay their setup to avoid incivilities. The New Year period is complex to manage, and there would have been many fire risks involving the enclosures. Furthermore, the respect of Nice for all religious festivities postponed the operation due to the Epiphany, an important celebration for Catholics.
How does the collection work?
Nice aims to become more ecological and an eco-responsible city. This recycling initiative of organic waste will allow the creation of compost for the cityโs parks and gardens. Thanks to this operation, the city managed to collect and recycle 20 tons of trees in 2022. A significant amount. Therefore, 12 enclosures have been placed strategically across the city of Nice for the collection of Christmas trees.
Here is the list of the 12 enclosures:

For those who cannot get to these enclosures
If you cannot go to one of these 12 enclosures, Nice has thought of you. Waste disposal sites are normally chargeable and require a badge to deposit waste. Well, they become free and nothing will be required of you if you come with your tree.
As a reminder, a tree is considered bulky. If left on public roads, it can result in a 450 euro fine. The act can also be classified as illegal dumping, which would result in a 1500 euro fine. Keep that in mind!
