Nearly 4 million euros invested in schools this summer

The city of Nice is taking advantage of the school holidays to carry out work in the 150 schools of its municipality. This year, nearly 4 million euros are allocated to various renovations.

The summer vacation period has begun for the nearly 30,000 students of public schools in Nice. So, while waiting for the return of the children on September 4th, the schools are not entirely left abandoned. “Over 160 school construction projects will be undertaken this summer,” announces the municipality.

The effort is greater than last year, but less significant than two years ago. There were 126 projects undertaken in 2022 and 176 in 2021 during the same summer period.

Work in schools takes place throughout the year. In 2022, the overall budget for these school projects amounted to 8.2 million euros. The deputy in charge of communal buildings and sub-delegate for school work, Pierre Fiori, speaks of 500 projects per year.

Renovate, Embellish, Modernize and Green

The school holidays are an opportunity to undertake larger renovations in complete safety. The municipal services of communal buildings and school workshops have several missions: renovate, embellish, modernize, and green the schools.
3.9 million euros are invested by the city just for this summer break. And there is a lot to do. On the agenda: “waterproofing, repainting, façade renovation, changing or renovating joinery, replacing boilers, replacing sanitary facilities, computer equipment and cabling, interventions in classrooms and dining areas, renovation and greening of schoolyards…

“Thanks to these significant investments, the 29,742 students of public schools, National Education staff, and municipal staff will begin their school year in the best conditions,“ promises the city of Nice.
