Tramway: Changes that are hard to swallow

Latest News

Since July 1, 2023, paper transport tickets have disappeared, replaced by rechargeable cards. A large number of users have expressed their dissatisfaction with these changes.

Just a few days after their introduction, users are still asking many questions about the operation, cost, and terms. Let’s take stock of this major transition. Two new cards are available: “My card” and “The card”.

“My card” is reserved for residents of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis. It is personalized and allows for the purchase of single tickets or a subscription. “The card,” on the other hand, is not personalized. It allows the purchase of occasional tickets such as solo or multi-trip journeys, as well as passes for one or several days. Both transport cards cost 2 euros.

these changes

An online petition addressed to Christian Estrosi has been launched by the citizen group Viva-Democracy, ecology, solidarity. Thousands of people have already signed it.ย

“This decision is another serious blow to our purchasing power[โ€ฆ] We demand the cancellation of these increases and a commitment from the Metropolis to overhaul its transport policy to meet social demands”, can be read on the petition launched by the Viva-Democracy group.

Indeed, these changes have a financial impact on users. As Mata, a student in Nice, points out: “Transport is already expensive here, so it weighs on the budget, and it’s quite complicated for us pedestrians to get around now“.
