Christian Estrosi and รric Ciotti were present at Riquier station to observe the modernization work that began in 2016.
As we announced last month, a conference was organized on January 26 at the University of Saint-Jean DโAngely to discuss, with the neighborhood residents, the future work to be carried out.
Riquier station is the region’s leading TER station in terms of traffic, with more than 1.8 million travelers annually. Modernization projects for the station have been on hold for a long time.
Particularly for platform access, where an elevator is essential for people with reduced mobility. 4.8 million euros will be allocated for this purpose, with 50% coming from the region. A great initiative. The problem is the timing. The work should start in January 2019, with service beginning in December 2019, three years from now.
The works considered more urgent at present are the installation of security gates at the station entrance, which should be implemented by the end of June. Additionally, which could further increase the station’s capacity, the platforms are planned to be extended. An additional 190 to 220 meters will be added to allow two trains to stop simultaneously.
The total cost is 1.3 million euros, again funded 50% by the region.
The work will begin in March and should be completed by September.
