“Nice and the Fight Against Harm to Quality of Life”

Latest News

Since 2008, Christian Estrosi has been multiplying initiatives to preserve the quality of life for the residents of Nice. He aims to embody the continuous commitment of the region in the fight against threats to the living environment.

One of the first measures implemented by Estrosi was the creation of the rapid response cleanliness force in 2008. This team is deployed on the ground and carries out more than 6,000 interventions each year, thus contributing to the maintenance of cleanliness in public spaces.

Technology helps in the fight

Simultaneously, the municipality established a unique number, Allo Mairie. This allows all citizens to report any situation requiring the intervention of municipal or metropolitan services. This initiative simplifies residents’ procedures and speeds up responses to reported issues.

The use of technology has also proven crucial in the fight against incivilities. The Allo Mairie application allows everyone to send a photo and geolocate illegal dumping, facilitating the work of cleaning teams.

Authorities at the heart of the fight

Furthermore, authorities have established a special brigade, the Brigade for the Fight Against Threats to the Living Environment (LAC). To effectively respond to uncivil behavior, this team tracks illegal dumping and ensures the preservation of the urban environment.

An innovative solution has also been developed to detect illegal dumping and cleanliness violations in real-time. This cutting-edge technology strengthens the efforts to maintain the citizens’ quality of life.

The results of these actions are tangible. Every year, the Nice Metropolitan services remove nearly 800 illegal dumps, thus contributing to the beautification of the city. In 2023, authorities issued more than 3,700 fines for illegal dumping and blocking public roads. This demonstrates the firmness of local authorities against such behaviors.

In January 2024, authorities issue between 30 and 50 tickets each month for illegal dumping committed by vehicles, thus demonstrating their intent to sanction disrespectful behavior towards the urban environment. Additionally, in 2024, the Metropolis aims to apply the 3DS law to add an administrative fine to the criminal penalty. These fines will be cumulative.

Numerous difficulties

Unfortunately, the municipal police and the Brigade for the Fight Against Threats to the Living Environment face increasing difficulties, notably with homeless individuals and people in a state of intoxication. In recent weeks, especially on Jean Mรฉdecin Avenue, law enforcement officers approach these individuals by proposing they go to specialized facilities. Unfortunately, this offer is often refused. In such situations, police explain to individuals that they cannot stay in place or solicit money, thus reminding them of societal rules and the importance of respecting public spaces.

According to law enforcement, “In Nice, nothing should be on the ground.” A motto illustrating the city’s commitment to maintaining a clean and pleasant environment for all its residents and visitors. To enhance nighttime surveillance, the Brigade for the Fight Against Threats to the Living Environment (LAC) actively patrols at night, using cameras to fine observed infractions, thereby helping to deter delinquent behavior and ensure the safety and cleanliness of public spaces. Simultaneously, authorities plan to gradually replace buried trash bins with compactor bins as part of the modernization of urban infrastructure. This transition to more efficient bins will help reduce the presence of waste in public spaces, thereby maintaining the cleanliness of Nice’s streets.
