Following Algeria’s victory this weekend, numerous incidents occurred in France as a form of celebration.
On Saturday night, Algeria defeated Tunisia with a score of 2-1 in the final of the Arab Cup.
This victory by the Fennecs is the first in the history of the competition. It sparked major celebrations all over France, also leading to some disturbances.
In Paris, on the Champs-Elysées, the crowd was dense. Facing some misconduct, the police made over 32 arrests and issued 432 fines.
In Nice as well, the triumph of the Greens was celebrated, but there too, law enforcement had to intervene to contain some supporters. In Ariane (Nice-East) and Las Planas (Nice-North), trash bins were set on fire. Several suspects were arrested by the police and then taken into custody.
Eric Ciotti criticized these excessive celebrations on Twitter, stating that “some would have us believe that everything is fine. Our assimilation model has profoundly failed.”
The streets of Paris were blocked. Algerian flags took over the capital. The first city of France is living tonight to the rhythms of “one, two, three, viva Algeria.”
And some would have us believe that everything is fine.
