OGCN: Bafodé Diakité Silences the Allianz Riviera!

Latest News

The season is already resuming for Gym! Facing Lille in the opening match of the championship, the Aiglons could count on the support of about 29,436 fans who came to cheer at the Allianz Riviera, a record attendance for an opening match in the azure garden.

No surprises in Francesco Farioli’s starting lineup. After experimenting with various setups during the pre-season matches, the Italian coach finally opted for a tried-and-true 4-3-3 formation: Bulka in goal, the Dante-Todibo duo in central defense flanked by Attal and Bard on the sides, Ndayishimiye positioned ahead of Thuram and Sanson in midfield, and Moffi spearheading the attack, supported by the speed of Boga and the tenacity of Laborde on the right flank.

In an open and enjoyable first half to watch, the Aiglons were patient, conceding a significant share of ball possession (60%) to Lille and not hesitating to counter-attack when opportunities arose. This strategy quickly paid off as Gaëtan Laborde scored the first goal of the 2023/24 season in Ligue 1. On a pass from Terem Moffi, initiated by Khéphren Thuram, the forward showcased his technique by lobbing over Lucas Chevalier, who had come off his line. Shortly after, Thuram unfortunately had a goal disallowed for offside.

Lille Does Not Let Go

With Gym being more cautious and relying on their lead in the second half, the match’s tone was less thrilling. However, a dominant LOSC continued to push until the end, achieving a feat in additional time (90 + 4)! Bafodé Diakité equalized with a header from a free-kick. A tough blow for Nice, held to a draw after leading throughout the match.

The Aiglons will be in action again next Sunday at 3 PM at the Stade du Moustoir de Lorient.
