The Ministry of the Interior has released the official results of the first round:
Emmanuel Macron came in first with 24.01% of the votes, ahead of Marine Le Pen, who received 21.30%. They qualified for the second round, as was already announced on Sunday evening.
In third place, Franรงois Fillon obtained 20.01% of the votes, ahead of Jean-Luc Mรฉlenchon with 19.58% and Benoรฎt Hamon with 6.36%, according to these figures that include the votes of French citizens abroad.
No other candidate surpassed the 5% mark of the votes.
The abstention rate rose to 22.23%, a slight increase compared to the first round of the 2012 presidential election (20.53%).
