The collective For a Just and Lasting Peace between Palestinians and Israelis organized a rally this Saturday, as they have every week since the beginning of the conflict, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“Ceasefire, ceasefire in Gaza!” “Palestine will live! Palestine will prevail!” and “One solution, stop the occupation!” The emotion remains intense, as demonstrated by these slogans chanted by the protesters. The purpose of this demonstration is to raise awareness among the public and the government about the atrocity of the genocide of the Gazans in order to protect the Palestinian population from famine and lack of care.ย
The demonstration began at Place Garibaldi and proceeded along the entire Avenue de la Rรฉpublique, halting traffic between Rue Barla and Avenue de la Rรฉpublique. A fund was also available to contribute to the costs of the CNPJDPI collective, to continue organizing demonstrations every Saturday.
The demands of the collective for a Just and Lasting Peace between Palestinians and Israelis during the demonstration
They demand government support at the UN Security Council to enforce the following measures:
- An immediate ceasefire in Gaza as well as the lifting of the blockade and an arms embargo.ย
- The deployment of the UN to protect civilians and allow humanitarian aid.ย
- The release of hostages and Palestinian political prisoners.
- As well as the suspension of economic and cultural agreements with Israel. Including the boycott of those complicit in Israeli colonization, like Carrefour and McDonald’s.
During the demonstration, the CNPJDPI collective spoke out and accused the United States of its close relationship with Israel. Many signs depicted the U.S. President, Joe Biden, with the slogan “Serial Killer”. An American present at the demonstration also spoke, chanting “My countryโs prone to genocide. My president is genocide Joe. My people support genocide. But not all Americans are supporting. Many many people support Gaza” (Note: โMy country supports genocide. My president embodies genocide. My people support genocide. But not all Americans support it. Many people support Gazaโ). The slogans were then repeated to support her statement, proclaiming “Free Free Palestine!”
