Olav Kooij from Team Visma Lease a Bike emerged victorious in Sisteron in this fifth stage of Paris-Nice.
For the fifth day of Paris-Nice, the riders set off from Saint-Sauveur-de-Montagut for a 193.5-kilometer stage towards Sisteron. Today, the riders faced the first hilly stage of the route.
Throughout this fifth phase, we witnessed an intense battle among eight leading riders. From this front group, Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies) was named the most combative rider of the day after assisting his teammate Sandy Dujardin in the breakaway. The breakaway was reined in ten kilometers from the finish.
Ultimately, Olav Kooij claimed victory against Mads Pedersen (LIDL-TREK) and Pascal Ackermann (ISRAEL-PREMIER TECH). The polka dot jersey remains with Frenchman Mathieu Burgaudeau. The challenge awaits him tomorrow in the sixth stage, which promises a difficult finish at La-Colle-Sur-Loup. The yellow and green jerseys of riders Lucas Plapp (Team JAYCO ALULA) and Mads Pedersen remain unchanged in ownership.
