Since December 2023, CeGIDD 06 has implemented an innovative protocol to easily identify victims of sexual violence.
Speaking up is reclaiming your freedom! The Free Center for Information, Screening, and Diagnostic (CeGIDD 06) in Nice, in partnership with the Alpes-Maritimes department, reveals their new protocol for detecting victims of sexual violence. The goal: to give voice to victims and effectively identify victims of this scourge.ย
Deputy Eric Ciotti particularly welcomed this new method: “This is an important issue, and I am delighted that it is being addressed here with significant results, an action methodology, and professionals who are attentive. We must be fully mobilized on these essential issues because there are lives to be saved and protectedย .”
The Systematization of Questioning: a Revelatory Element
The protocol consists of systematically questioning patients about this issue during their consultations with CeGIDD 06 professionals. Moreover, all staff are trained in psycho-trauma and speech collection.ย
Regarding the questioning, these are simple and targeted questions, but poignant for victims. Here are a few that have helped many concerned individuals:ย
- Have you ever had non-consensual relations or experienced violence?
- Have you ever had relations where you did not agree or experienced violence?
- Have you been or are you a victim of sexual violence… verbal, psychological, or physical?
A Team Effort
Once victims are identified, CeGIDD 06 directs patients to appropriate care for their situations. For effective follow-up, staff apply the decision tree method. This is a tool they have developed for optimal support. They then refer to the specialized midwives at Larchet hospital, while following the recommendations of the High Authority of Health.ย
This initiative is part of a shared departmental plan to combat all violence against women. In 2023, it recorded a 55% increase in patient declarations of victimization, thus demonstrating its effectiveness. In the same year, 7% of CeGIDD 06 users declared that they had been victims. This corresponds to 14% of women and 2% of men.
CeGIDD 06, Committed to Sexual Health
In addition to detecting victims of sexual violence, CeGIDD 06 offers easy and quality access to STI screening, prevention of unwanted pregnancies, vaccination, and the psychological and social care of victims.
