The Department of Alpes-Maritimes renews the agreement with the BAPU consultation center as part of its commitment to the psychological health of students.
On Monday, April 15, during a visit to the premises of the University Psychological Assistance Office (BAPU), Eric Ciotti was present to assert the renewal of the agreement with this organization. The president of the Finance Committee of the Department of Alpes-Maritimes met with the psychiatrists and psychologists of this association, which aids young students in need.
What is BAPU?
The University Psychological Assistance Offices are consultation centers open to all students seeking psychological support. It is accessible to young people aged between 18 and 32 and is free since consultations are covered by social security organizations without any upfront payment.
To provide some statistics about the BAPU in Nice, there were 403 consultations in 2023, with the main reasons being anxiety, depression, family conflicts, and relationship difficulties. Let’s remember that the suicide rate among those under 25 has doubled over the past 10 years. Therefore, having this kind of support is crucial today.
We must act!
The health professionals at BAPU aim in the future to continue helping as many people as possible and guiding them towards mental and psychological healing. One of the main goals is to reach out directly to those in need rather than waiting for people in difficulty to come on their own. Often, those who are suffering the most are the ones who do not dare to seek help. It is important to assist them.
This agreement will allow BAPU to be more financially supported to recruit more psychologists and psychiatrists to continue this wonderful initiative.
