THE BOOK
41 years later, OGC Nice is back on the Ligue 1 podium, filling the entire city with pride. How did a club with only the 10th largest budget in Ligue 1 manage to hold its own against the championship giants, AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain? How did the team build its successes and face adversity? What did global star Mario Balotelli find so special in Nice to once again express the fullness of his talent, as Hatem Ben Arfa did a year earlier?
These are questions that club president Jean-Pierre Rivรจre, Swiss coach Lucien Favre, and many Aiglons answer in this book by sharing memories, analyses, and insights with the author. Turn the pages and step with them behind the scenes of a memorable season, which began in the tears of the July 14 attack and concluded in the jubilation of the victory against the four-time reigning champions of France. Discover from the inside the daily life of a club that changed shareholders, coach, and key players over the summer without deviating from its project, and that managed to shake up the hierarchy and win hearts.
The book extends this sweet euphoria over 128 pages richly illustrated with exclusive photos taken within the intimacy of the team, complemented by key figures and technical sheets of all 46 official matches played in 2016-2017.
THE AUTHOR
Who better than an insider to lift the veil and reveal the backstage of this incredible season? Born in Nice, Laurent Oreggia (39 years old) developed a passion for football in the 1980s by watching the animated series Captain Tsubasa and “going up” with his father to the Ray stadium to support the Gym of Daniel Bravo, Milos Djelmas, and Marko Elsner, before continuing to live intensely through the ups and downs of the red and black club. A journalist by training, he became the head of OGC Nice’s official media in 2013, becoming a direct witness to the club’s remarkable rise and the narrator of this journey through this book.
