Gala evening at the Allianz Riviera

The France-Italy Legends match was held last night in Nice, an event organized in tribute to the 86 victims of the attack on the Promenade des Anglais on July 14, 2016.

It was in an Allianz Riviera stadium with over 20,000 spectators that the match, opposing renowned former French internationals (Petit, Blanc, Trezeguet, Makelele…) to the Italian stars of yesterday (Albertini, Corradi, Balzaretti, Di Canio…), took place.

This shows that while sport sometimes divides, it also fulfills its function when it comes to uniting.

The emotion was at its peak during the minute of silence before the kickoff of the match: “An intense moment,” as stated by Christian Estrosi, who was, of course, present.

The crowd even chanted the legendary “and one, and two, and three-nil…” after Djorkaeff’s goal, just before halftime, during which a check for 100,000 euros was presented to the representatives of the Promenade des Anges association.

An hour and a few goals later, the match ended, after an animated finish, to the applause of the spectators.

But in addition to beautiful goals and a great show, the players delighted the audience, not only with their presence and game but especially with their enthusiasm for the symbolic cause.

Johan Micoud, the most Niçois of Cannois yesterday, perfectly summed up the investment of the “Legends”: “we are here above all to bring happiness to people.”
