Emmanuel Tric was elected as president of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis on Wednesday, June 28, by the members of the institution’s board of directors, succeeding Frรฉdรฉrique Vidal, who was appointed Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation last May.

As the only candidate for the presidency, his candidacy received 25 votes, along with 4 blank votes. He is elected for the duration of the remaining term of office of the board members.

Emmanuel Tric had been vice-president of the UNS board since April 2016 and was appointed interim administrator on May 22 by the rector of the Nice Academy.

Emmanuel Tric, a Professor of Geophysics, joined the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in 1999 after being a faculty member at the University of Paris XI in physics for nine years.

His research activities have covered various themes ranging from past instabilities of the Earth’s magnetic field to processes associated with thermosolutal convection in closed environments, the dehydration effects of the subducting tectonic plate, or mountain slope instabilities.

He has held various responsibilities within the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis: elected member of the board (2000 โ€“ 2003), director of the Earth-Environment-Space department (2005-2009), the doctoral studies college (2007-2010), and the Gรฉoazur laboratory (2010 โ€“ 2016).

At the national level, he was a member of the National Council of Universities section 36 and conducted expert assessments for the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, and Research (MENESR), and AERES. He is currently a member of section 18 of the CNRS.
