Christian Estrosi and several local figures visited the Jeanne d’Arc parking lot for the first time. Located in the Libération district, the parking lot and green space are nearing completion.
The mayor of Nice, accompanied by his elected officials, local residents, and neighborhood associations, had the opportunity to visit the parking lot and the Jeanne d’Arc park. It was the first time the location was opened to the public. The investment of 16 million euros seems to be paying off.
A Highly Demanded Parking Lot
“The Jeanne d’Arc parking lot is finally here, after so many years of waiting, we finally have it and I’m thrilled,” declared the president of the Parcs d’Azur organization. The lack of space in the district was indeed noticeable. The old parking lot had only 90 spaces. This figure doubles with the new parking lot, offering 203 spaces spread over three levels. Forty-one spaces are reserved for electric cars with charging stations. Motorcycles will have 17 spots available.
Christian Estrosi also announced the replacement of the Lattre de Tassigny esplanade and the infernet parking lot with green spaces by the end of 2025.
A Green Space for the Residents
In keeping with Nice’s more ecological vision, the Jeanne d’Arc parking lot will also feature a park. Seventy trees have been planted, helping to reduce the nighttime heat by about five degrees during summer. The park will be fenced and closed at night, adhering to the same regulations as other existing parks, as Christian Estrosi reminded, to “avoid disturbances.” Mrs. Annie Thouret, from the Malausséna neighborhood association, is delighted with this decision: “I support all the proposals. It’s a beautiful park, so it will add vegetation and parking, which we need in the area.” Despite some resistance, the statue of Jeanne d’Arc will indeed be present in the park.
The rue de Grammont, a subject of debate, will be reopened to traffic. It will be one-way and descending. The city hall will install retractable bollards for potential neighborhood parties or flea markets.
